First Robotics Engineering Scholarship

This scholarship is a merit-based scholarship to recognize the achievements of FIRST Robotics competition participants.

  • Must be a new entering freshman and apply for admission to GVSU prior to December 31
  • Must have participated in the FIRST Robotics Competition
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better in high school
  • Must have a composite test score of at least 26 ACT/ 1240 SAT
  • Have at least 6 units of high school math and science
  • Be enrolled full time

Scholarship Committee: The Engineering Scholarship Committee will select a recipient from those students who meet the above qualifications and who have been admitted to the University. Awards will be announced by the end of March.

Two scholarships are awarded annually, one to EGR and the second to EGR, CIS or OSH.

Renewal Criteria: To renew a student must be enrolled in engineering and carry a minimum of 15 credits each semester, maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA at GVSU and successfully complete the engineering requirements for each academic year. Can receive scholarship for a maximum of 8 semesters.

Supplemental Questions
  1. Please list all mathematics and science classes taken in high school (grades 9 – 12).
  2. Attach a typed essay written about yourself and your interest in engineering. Refer to the description of the scholarship for specific topics to be addressed in your essay. Help the Engineering Scholarship Committee understand your uniqueness and see you as a person, as a student, and as a future member of the engineering profession. To accomplish this, it would be best if you wrote in the first person. Remember that the Committee will read many essays, and you must make them understand why you should receive a scholarship. Your essay will weigh heavily in their decision.
  3. Please submit an essay, discuss your participation in the FIRST Robotics competition, including the name and location of your team and the name of your sponsoring organization.
  4. Please provide the name and email address for one of the sponsors from the FIRST Robotics team on which you worked. This individual will be asked to submit a letter of reference on your behalf. Prior to typing in the name and email address of your sponsor, please make sure to contact the individual to ensure they are willing to serve as a reference.To monitor whether your reference provider has provided the requested information, once you have specified a reference provider at least once, the “References” menu will appear in the top navigation menu. Simply navigate to that tab and you will see all references specified. “Requested” means that the reference provider has not yet supplied the requested information whereas “Submitted” means that your reference provider has completed his/her reference. By clicking “Resend”, you can remind the reference providers to complete the request.
