Blue Working Family Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students who graduated from high schools in Michigan who otherwise might not be able to attend and finish college solely because of economic reasons. Recipients shall be known as the Blue Working Family Scholars. To be eligible for this scholarship applicants must:

  • Be accepted for or currently enrolled at GVSU
  • Be new first year students from a Michigan high school
  • Be an undergraduate enrolled for 12 credit hours or more in any course of study
  • Be making satisfactory academic progress according to the norms established by the University
  • Preference will be given to students that demonstrate the largest unmet need. Unmet need is the difference between a student’s total cost of attendance and financial aid the student receives, including taking into account the expected family contribution from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Financial need is required and shall be demonstrated by the completion of the FAFSA

Renewal Criteria: The scholarship may be renewed without reapplication provided the recipient continues to meet the qualifications stated above and maintain a cumulative 2.3 GPA. This scholarship may be awarded for a maximum of 8 semesters. Recipients will also be required to perform a minimum of ten hours of community service per semester.
