The Arlene Treanor Native Plants Internship

Before submitting this application, you must have arranged for an internship with a faculty sponsor, your academic advisor, and an agent of the business or agency where you will work. See the Biology website for additional information regarding internships.

This internship award will be available to students who are at a wholesale or retail plant nursery or landscaping business and the purpose of the internship shall be to learn about and participate in use of native plants in landscaping.

  • Must be a Biology or Natural Resource Management major
  • Must be an entering sophomore, junior, or senior at GVSU
  • Selection will be based upon the students’ academic records, the appropriateness of the proposed activities to the purposed of the award, and the quality of the proposal.
  • A faculty sponsor is required

You will be expected to present your internship results to the Biology Department by means of a presentation at one of the following: Student Scholarship Day, a poster placed in Henry Hall, a seminar or a presentation at an event sponsored by the Waddell-Treanor Native Plants Endowment.

  1. Please list all the college-level Biology and NRM Courses you have taken or in which you are curently enrolled. If you transferred courses to GVSU, where did you take those courses?
  2. Recognizing that you are still in your undergraduate years, what sort of professional plans do you have? This can be two or three sentences.
  3. Please upload a written proposal describing your planned activites. You should demonstrate what you hope to learn about the use of native plants in landscaping through participating in your proposed internship. Provide a schedule for conducting the work. Please limit your proposal to no more than two double-spaced pages.
  4. You must have a faculty sponsor for this award. Please include the name and email address of this indvidual below. This facutly sponser will be required to submit to the Waddell-Treanor Committee a written statement of support of the project and verification that arrangement have been made with the internship business or agency. To monitor whether your faculty sponsor has provided the requested information, once you have specified a sponsor at least once, the “References” menu will appear in the top navigation menu. Simply navigate to that tab and you will see all references specified. “Requested” means that the reference provider has not yet supplied the requested information whereas “Submitted” means that your faculty sponsor has completed his/her reference. By clicking “Resend”, you can remind your sponsor to complete the request.
