Thaddeus J. Maciak
Established by Thaddeus J. Maciak ’99 ’11 out of gratitude for receiving a lifesaving kidney transplant while pursuing his undergraduate degree at Grand Valley. After receiving his second transplant in 1996, TJ participated in the national and international transplant games which had been hosted by the National Kidney Foundation each year. In 2011 he learned that they would be cancelled going forward. He subsequently stepped in to create a new organization called the Transplant Games of America. With the help of the West Michigan Sports Commission, GVSU, and the medical community, the first games were successfully held under the new organization at GVSU in the summer of 2012.
