Seidman School of Business and Accounting Department Alumni
This scholarship was created by the Seidman School of Business (“SSB”) and Accounting Department alumni in honor of Professor Emeritus and former Accounting Department Chair, Don Klein.
Donald Joseph Klein received his B.S. in Economics from Rockhurst College, his M.B.A. from the University of Detroit, and his D.B.A. from Michigan State University in 1964. Dr. Klein began his academic career at Michigan State University, and served as a professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Saint Louis University, and Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville before joining the faculty at Grand Valley State University, Seidman School of Business in 1973. He chaired the Accounting and Taxation Department from 1973 through 1989 and served as the L. William Seidman Chair of Accountancy from 1985-1993. His vision for success coupled with sheer determination allowed him to create relationships with local accounting firms and to recruit good students during the earlier days of the department’s development. These relentless efforts helped establish an outstanding accounting program at GVSU. Through the years, Dr. Klein’s sincerity and innovation have served to motivate others – current students and alumni as well as the local business community. The establishment of this scholarship is a fitting gesture that celebrates the accomplishments of a truly talented and dedicated contributor.
