Nichols, established in 1936, a distributor of products to clean, protect, and package in the Great Lakes Region, created this scholarship in 2006 to
1) Reward students who commit to making a difference when it comes to environmental, social, and fiscal responsibility (triple bottom line),
2) Demonstrate Nichols commitment to sustainability, and to
3) Acknowledge Nichols customers when they demonstrate their commitment to sustainability.
As Nichols’ customers make significant strides to implement “Green” strategies and programs, it intends to recognize them by contributing to this fund in their honor. Nichols’ suppliers will also be invited to participate in this scholarship by making contributions to this fund.
Nichols’ corporate headquarters and main distribution center are located in Muskegon, Michigan; branch facilities are located in Grand Rapids, Holland, Jackson and Traverse City, Michigan. Nichols serves over 4,000 customers from various industries focusing on industry, health-care, education, government, retail and lodging. Its supply base consists of corporations such as 3M, Spartan Chemical, Kimberly-Clark, Georgia Pacific, Windsor, Clarke, Highlights Industries, Sealed Air, and AEP. Nichols offers a comprehensive Green and Clean program that not only includes “green” products for facilities maintenance but also offers education, training and support to implement such programs within customers’ facilities, whether they are pursuing a LEED certification or not.
