The scholarship was initiated in 1993 by Seidman College of Business MBA alumna, Marilyn Sherwood. The scholarship provides financial aid to all non-traditional students who wish to pursue their MBA.
By the late 1970’s, Marilyn Sherwood had earned a bachelor’s degree, taught school, and with her husband Budge raised three children. As her children prepared for college, Marilyn decided that she, too, would continue her education and enroll in the M.B.A. program at Grand Valley’s Seidman College of Business. Marilyn earned her M.B.A. in 1983 and went on to a successful career in financial planning before retiring as first vice president from UBS, a wealth management company.
When Marilyn was in school, she promised herself that when she completed her degree she would start a scholarship, and to that end she did so in 1993 with the establishment of the Marilyn and B.P. Sherwood III Scholarship Fund. The Sherwoods are engaged civic leaders in the west Michigan community and loyal friends and ambassadors for Grand Valley State University.
