Family and Friends of Coach Jim '83 and Diane '82, '93 Meerman

The Jim ’83 & Diane ’82, ’93 Meerman Coopersville Scholarship was established by family and friends of Coach Jim ’83 and Diane ’82, ’93 Meerman, to continue their legacy and support of Coopersville Area Public Schools and Grand Valley State University (GVSU). Jim and Diane met at Coopersville High School, and in their thirty-four years together, they studied and graduated from GVSU and began their careers in education and athletics in the Coopersville Area Public Schools. Jim and Diane instilled their passion for education and community in their four children and six grandchildren.

Jim departed this earth in 2015 and leaves a legacy as a successful high school football coach at Coopersville High School and former GVSU football player. Jim was a running back at GVSU from 1977-1980. He then went on to coach for 30 years, 25 as head coach at Coopersville High School, winning 218 games. He was inducted into the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2014. Diane Meerman continues to serve in the Coopersville Area Public Schools, and in an effort of continued support, they are establishing this scholarship to assist students from Coopersville Schools with the costs of their education at GVSU.
