After being wounded in the Normandy Campaign, he was returned to the states where he spent many months in a veterans’ hospital.

Upon being released from the hospital, he attended Ferris State College and graduated with an associate degree in Auto Mechanics. He then worked for several years in this occupation in the Flint, Michigan area. In his later years, he moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he volunteered for more than ten years at the Veterans’ Facility repairing and cleaning wheel chairs for disabled veterans. He died June 7, 2003 at the age of 78 and was given a military funeral.
