Beatrice "Bea" (Aldrink) Idema
The Beatrice “Bea” A. Idema Nursing Scholarship was established by Beatrice “Bea” (Aldrink) Idema to help future nurses studying at Grand Valley State University (GVSU). With over 40 years of giving to the University, Bea has always been a special friend to Grand Valley. As a nurse, a philanthropist, and an advocate for education, this scholarship is an expression of Bea’s passion for personally investing in helping others.
Bea and her husband, William “Bill” W. Idema, have actively supported many philanthropic organizations throughout West Michigan including John Ball Zoo, the Grand Rapids Symphony, American Red Cross, and the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. Bill, the son of Steelcase co-founder, Walter Idema, passed in 2008, and Bea has continued their legacy of transformational philanthropy throughout West Michigan.
The Bill and Bea Idema Foundation was a key supporter of the Mary Idema Pew Library Learning and Information Commons as well as the Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences. Bea nad her family, including her sister Joyce ‘Joy’ Versluis, have been avid supporters and friends to GVSU. In 2013, Bea was honored by GVSU with the Enrichment Award, the University’s highest honor. This scholarship will inspire and assist nursing students who demonstrate financial need.
